One firm, one price

You Get One Price, Before Anything Comes Off

A re-roof is the biggest job you are ever likely to have done to your house, and the worry is always the same. What will they find when the slates come off, and what will that add to your bill?

We settle that before we start. We come out, get up on your roof and tell you whether it genuinely needs stripping or whether a repair would see you right for years yet. If it does need doing, you get one figure covering the lot - scaffold, strip, structure, battens, membrane, new lead, covering and clearing up.

We put your slate back up as slate and your tile back as tile, so the house still looks like itself once the scaffold comes down. The roof check costs you nothing and there is no obligation to go ahead. Ring 01323 33 55 33.

What you get from us

What You Get For Your Money

You know the figure before a slate moves

You get one price for the whole job and we talk you through what it covers. If we open your roof up and find something that changes it, you hear it from us while the job is running rather than at the end.

One firm does the whole roof

We put your scaffold up, strip your roof, sort the timber, batten it, lead it, cover it and take the skip away. You are not chasing three trades and you are not left tidying up after us.

Fixed down so it stays put

We fix your slates and tiles mechanically rather than trusting mortar to hold them, and your ridges and verges are dry-fixed. That is why you will not be paying somebody to repoint your new roof in ten years.

What Your Re-Roof Includes

From the first phone call to the skip going, here is what you get:

  • A free roof check first - we get up on your roof and tell you whether you need a new one at all, at no cost to you.
  • One price for everything - scaffold, strip, timber, battens, membrane, lead and covering in a single figure, so nothing gets added on later.
  • Your consent sorted for you - if your house sits in a conservation area, we settle what you are allowed to put back before a thing is ordered.
  • Your garden and your neighbour looked after - we sheet up your paths, your beds and next door's side before a slate comes off.
  • What is underneath put right - we check your battens, rafter ends and valley boards while they are open, and tell you what we find rather than cover it back over.
  • A covering that matches your house - your slate back as slate, your tile as tile, laid to the right gauge and lap and fixed down properly.
  • Fresh lead right through - you get new flashings, soakers and valley linings, not your old lead refitted to save a few pounds.
  • A clean site at the end - your ridges and verges dry-fixed, the skip gone and your drive swept before we leave.

Most semis and mid-terraces take us days rather than weeks, and you will get a realistic start and finish date before you commit to anything. If your flat roof over the back is tired too, say so and we will price it while your scaffold is up, which costs you a good deal less than doing it on its own later.

Ring 01323 33 55 33 and book a free roof check. If we reckon yours has another ten winters left in it, that is what you will be told, and finding out will not have cost you a penny.

Common questions

New Roof Questions We Get Asked

Longer than most of its fixings. Slate and clay tile can outlast the people who lay them, and concrete interlocking tile has decades in it too. What runs out first is the ironmongery holding it on and the mortar at the ridges and verges, and a roof that has lost enough of those is a re-roof even though most of the slates are sound. Whether yours is there yet is what the free roof check answers.

Like for like is usually the straightforward answer. Change the covering, the colour or the roof line and consent starts to matter, and it gets settled before a sample is ordered rather than once the pallets are on the drive. Whether your address is affected is one of the things the free roof check tells you.

Yes, and it is routine. The work is in the junctions: the party wall, the shared ridge, and on a thirties semi the hip and the valley that run into next door's tiles. Those get detailed properly, with the lead and the ridge carried across the join, or the new roof leaks into the old one.

A whole roof is worth paying for when the covering has genuinely run out: slates letting go in several places at once, battens crumbling when they are touched, or a leak that moves to a new spot every winter. A single split flashing is not any of that. If it does not need doing, we will tell you, and a roof that only wants a repair gets a repair.

No. There will be a scaffold up and it is not a quiet fortnight, but you stay in the house the whole way through. The roof is sheeted and closed up at the end of each day rather than left open.

Usually not. Concrete interlocking tile on a shallow hip is what that roof was built for: the structure is sized for its weight, and a like-for-like re-cover is the cheapest full roof there is. Where a change does earn its cost is the flat roof over the rear extension, which is often worth redoing in EPDM or fibreglass while the scaffold is up.
